Des Moines Register Endorses Jim Mowrer for Congress
DES MOINES – Tonight, Iraq War veteran and Democratic candidate Jim Mowrer was endorsed by the Des Moines Register for the Third District. The Register cites Mowrer’s commitment to service, military experience and his time working at the Pentagon as evidence of his qualifications. Moreover, the paper criticizes incumbent David Young, for being overly politically calculating and lacking leadership.
“The trouble is, [Young’s] voting record and his stand on key issues suggest otherwise.” the Register’s editors wrote. “What’s even more troubling is Young’s apparent lack of conviction. His positions seem to spring from carefully calculated political considerations, rather than a set of core beliefs. He doesn’t lead so much as follow the prevailing winds.
“…Mowrer is well versed on national issues and …he seems guided by strong set of principles that make him a persuasive candidate and could make him a leader to be reckoned with in the House. …He is more than deserving of another opportunity to serve the people of Iowa and the nation – this time in Congress.”
Jim Mowrer provided this response to his endorsement:
“I am grateful to receive the endorsement from the Des Moines Register, one of the most respected newspapers in Iowa and the country. In Congress, I will continue to advocate for women’s health care access, work to create more jobs here in Iowa by investing in infrastructure and education, and champion commonsense policies like equal pay for equal work that give working families a fair opportunity. And I’ll always stand up for Iowa veterans by making sure Congress meets its commitment to those who wore our nation’s uniform.”
